Legal Advice, employer likely to fire previous employees and replacing them with low

paid new employees? Hello,

My mom works in a laundary company in Alberta, Canada. Her employer has sponsored ~200 employee-immigrants from Filipenes to work for a lower wage than the current employees like my mom.
Soon the employer will fire the previous employees. For example, today the supervisors made the older employees to sign a paper saying that they work too slow. (also note that most employees cannot speak English). The employer may use this as proof of their "ligitimate" firing of the employee in future.
I am just asking for legal advice here. Isn't this illegal and discriminatory? Can any actions be taken quickely to prevent the firing of older employees?

I dont know about canada, but in the USA most employers can fire an employee anytime they want with out giving a reason. If your mom does get fired she should contact a lawyer and in the mean time she should start looking for a new job as there people sound horrible to work for

Ummm...not sure about Alberta, but you could try checking out the Canada Labour Code, and also see if there's such a thing for Alberta. Or you could call some lawyers to see if they will answer your question...a lot of them will. Just call up and say I wondered if I could ask a lawyer a question about labour laws.

I don't live in Canada, but here in the USA, no one can force you to sign anything, and, if an employer wrote me up for something I WASN'T DOING, I WOULDN'T SIGN IT!!!
