| My job is paying me below minimum wage.. is this legal? Well on paper I am getting paid minimum wage, but technically I am not.. My pay is $7.50/hr.. Iowa's minimum wage $7.25.. My work told me that there is a law in Iowa that states for every 6 hours worked, the worker is entitled to a 30 minute break.. So my work came up with the great idea that for every 6 hours I work, they take out a half hour of my pay.. That is one twelth of my pay.. 8.3%!!! So if I work 3 hours today, and 3 hours tomorrow, they will take a half hour out of pay.. If I work 36 hours in a week, my paycheck with only be for 33 hours.. So I came up with this formula that I'm going to present to my boss.. 5.5 hours x $7.50 % 6 hours... So If i work 6 hours, my pay per hour is $6.87! Isn't this wrong.. Seriously I consider it a slap in the face.. Has anyone experienced anything like this? I'm for sure going to talk to my boss about this. Anyone have any tips on what to say? Thanks.. -A Disgruntled Employee |
