If there were no minimum age, then, like JoMama said, there would TECHNICALLY be no age of consent - BY LAW. However, I believe then that we would have a whole lot of chaos. The age of consent does vary across country (however, whoever said in Spain it's only 12 or 13 needs to read up on their Spanish law - it's a Catholic country, and the laws show it, the age of consent there is EIGHTEEN). Some countries, usually lesser developed countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia, don't even have any enforced age of consent. But, thankfully, in the States and Western Europe, we do..

16 seems to be the general consensus, but one would seriously need to take into consideration the mental age of the individual in question.

Unfortunately there are no true moral laws, the Law reads now the age is 14 for a girl child and 16 for a boy child.

A very interesting question, I read Childhoods End many years ago and thought it was a fascinating read, seriously a very insightful novel it fuelled my imagination no end, then I discovered he moved to Bali - thinking in all my innocence that it was for the climate and his health.

On one hand you have a master of the genre - and on the flip side you have the, well devil, so to speak, I want to read more of his works but I cannot bring myself to, because the man repulses me.
