My uncle just slapped me because I told him I wanted to join the marines?

my uncle was in vietnam and he wears marine jackets all the time and glorifies the marines, but when he finds out i wanna join he says he won't have it and that the family only needs one marine. Why should he be the only one to be able to call himself a marine in the family? He didn't let his son join and he said he won't let his grandson join, all my family and friends oppose me joining the marines, I feel like I don't even belong in this family, im the only patriotic one, what should I do
