I want to join the Marine Corps, whats my best option? Does 4 years start with... ...training? I want to join the Marine Corps after I go to college and finish in 2 years (I have taken about 34583405 AP courses), and then join active duty for four years. I want to know the best option for joining to maximize my benefits and best suit my situation (hopefully, going to college can get me officer status). Is the officer contract obligation the same length as the enlisted contract obligation? I also want to know if the four years begins with training. Another thing that I would like to know is if I could choose to be a cook, or if I could choose where I am stationed (I would prefer to be stationed at the US Embassy in China, but I guess I can't be picky). Last but not least, what do you get to keep after leaving the Corps? Of course you won't get an M16, but do you get to keep all your uniforms? Thanks in advance for any help I can get. Semper Fi.

my advice is talk to a recruiter they will be able to help u out alot more than any one here but i will try your time starts as soon as u check in boot camp. now as far as your job i believe officers get put into jobs that will best serve the corps. so if u are sh!t hot u will go to the infantry but if u are a sh!t bag then u will be a cook or supply u might not have wanted to hear that but i think that is how it goes like i said talk to a recruiter u will be stationed where ever the marines want to put u u dont have a chose and u get to keep any uniforms u have and any gear u can acquire call the recruiter

well i dont know about all the questions you have but your contract starts the second you go to bootcamp or whatever training you go first. you get to keep all your uniforms b/c you buy most of them, i think all they really give you is a pair of cammies and MAYBE your greens but i'm not too sure i just know you get to keep it all when you get out.

So if you wanna become an officer you'll have to go to OTC and your contract will be a committed four just like enlisted(depending on your MOS) but as an officer when you re-enlist your new EAS date(End of Active Serivce date) will change to an indefinate. Which basically means you become like a civilian(kind of). By that I mean that you're kind of like a civilian in that you don't have a set number of years that you're committed to. You decide when you're done. As for your MOS, it all depends on your scores as well as Marine Corps needs. Duty stations will be the same deal(Marine corps needs). And yes you get to keep all your uniforms but you don't get to keep any issued gear from TMO(all the cool stuff like deuce gear, flak jackets, kevlar, etc.) unless you acquire extra of course! Good luck and Semper Fi!

Well I'm army, but i can help out...My dad was a Marine officer. Your best bet would be to do PLC. You do either 2 six week or one 10 week sessions. You get paid like 1700 every 4 weeks. After you complete your training whenever you graduate the Corps will come to your college and will commission you. I heard you can even choose what uniform to commission in.. Officer terms are 3 years active duty and six years reserve. You can request a garrison to be stationed at, but depends on the units strength, on if you get it. Usually we officers get where we request.
