How are The Marine Corps Reserve different from Active Duty?

Besides the obvious difference of not being deployed right away and only training during your weekends.
What is pay like and how long are you deployed for once you are? Any info and all little details are appreciated.

After your schooling a reservist goes to his home and serves his time one weekend a month and two weeks out of the year at his local USMC reservist station for the next six years.

An active duty Marine will go to his/her unit and serve every day for four years..

Reservist can be activated and will serve for (x) amount of time as needed or some of them have the option to volunteer for active stints..

Reserve duty is better suited for someone with a family or if they want to attend school.

Reserve duty is not for everyone the same way active is not for everyone.

I know pleny of reserve devil dogs that were sent to Iraq a week after they checked in with their unit.

You get paid the same rate but for only the weekend you drill. You are deployed for the same amount of time as active duty *in most cases*. If you have any more ?s, please feel free to email me. Semper Fi.

well we drill 3 days not the usual two but your pay is based on your rank and time in service. when u do the 2 week training its like your active duty for 2 weeks. deployments depend on your unit i know a guy that checked in march and was deployed by april. he came back early cause he got jacked up but some guys deploy 7 months some for 12 months. Like I said it all depends on the unit your with.
