A Little Person has a spectacular aura about
How many active duty Navy Seals are on duty today?

Just curious. 2 perished in skydiving accidents this month in Arizona. 2 more were lost in Iraq last month. That seems like a heavy toll on a per-capita basis , since the size of the overall force is so small.

Several more than 40. I have 3 in my family. Like close family. A brother, Father retired 2 years ago (not counting him active)Cousin stationed in Mongolia, and a cousin in...well..he "can't tell me or he'd have to kill me" LOL. I know that he really can't, but that just seems like such a movie line. As far as actual seals on duty, I have no clue. A few here, a few there, a few on Ice somewhere, a few on a boat here, a few swimming up to a beach somewhere as we speak... There really is no way to know. Several who actually pass the Seal Training are immediatly moved into a "Top Secret" mission, and aren't even able to tell their family and friends that they passed the training, thus making quite a few seals appear as normal active duty Navy Service members.

Not enough. As a former recruiter, getting seal applicants was VERY high on our priority list. Granted all the services are increasing the amount of special forces types, and thats why the big push.

Ya you're right that SEALs only comprise less then 1% of the entire US Navy. As of late its said the number is about at 2,450 and hoped that it'll reach up to 3,038 by 2011. Of course as mentioned, this number doesn't reflect the other unnamed operators in developement groups, or even the SEALs in reserve units which are around 400 more.
