| okay would i be considered a navy brat?
my father was in the navy for 8 years. he left a little over a year after i was born. but the thing is, even though he left, i basically lived a large part of my childhood around military bases. i was at every air show imaginable, fell in love with base lifestyle, and my dad told me every story i think he possibly could about shore duty, life on an aircraft carrier, and the naval experience in general. little things like posture and respect (little things that regular people tend to show a major lack of) bug the crap out of me, because i was constantly corrected by my father as a child. he is a vet of desert storm, and has been all over the world. he taught me the ins an outs of mechanics at a very young age, as he was a mechanic on the the jets. because of this i absolutely fell in love with motorsports and jets. flight has always been a passion of mine, so much so that at 15 i started flight school. to this day his military influences greatly influence me. but (cont'd) would i be considered a brat? i was born while he was still in the service, even if he got out only a short time after. my grandfather, and great grandfather (on moms side) were also in the military, and all 3 are vets (WWII and vietnam on top of dessert storm). but would i be criticized for being called a navy brat because i dont know what its like to constantly be moving around? and i barely know what its like to have lived without a family member for an extended amount of time? i was just wondering p.s. im asking this question because someone not in my family referred to me as a navy brat, when it was mentioned how i grew up and that my father WAS in the navy. i had never thought about the term navy brat applying to me before that, and i was just curious as to wether it really would. |

No you have gotten the best part of the family tradition. All of my kids were born on or near a base. Even though 3 are steps. They learned by following the example set for them. The 1st born sons of my family have been in the service since 1917. Honor above all else. |
