Joining the Royal Marines?

I'm planning on joining the Royal Marines sometime soon as an officer, can anyone give me details about how easy the training and selection is and also the actual job itself. I'm joining the RMR now as im too late for the 2008 intake for officers, is this a good Idea? How else can I maximise my chances at the POC and Admiralty Interview Board? Any idea as to how I can convince my parents that its a good idea - theyre not keen. Detailed answers please.
