How old are you? Sometimes when you have asthma it goes away as you get older and your lungs grow bigger. that is what happened to me. I had asthma and grew out of it as a teenager and joined the Marines. I actually tried to join the Army first and made the mistake of telling the recruiter that I had asthma as a child. They would not take me, so I tried the Marines and kept the asthma history to myself. I figured they were the ones who would give me a physical so it was there responsibility to figure out if I had health problems or not.
If you can go out and run 5 miles in 40 minutes or less without having an asthma attack you should be good to go.

They will take anyone these days. Asthma probably won't disqualify you. Drug addicts, gang members...Marines don't care anymore...sad.

Reading these answers actually made me ashamed of what ungrateful Americans think of one of the best fighting force in the world. The Marines are not all talk, and most of them are not brainwashed like most of the ignorant public seems to so feebly want to believe. These generalizations are sickening, especially when most of those Marines who have "half a brain" or are "robots" have died for the preservation of our freedoms. Marines ARE the best out of the branches because they have the most rigorous and versatile training. Marine Corps training is very demanding, and it requires not just a lot of discipline, but a lot of willpower and spirit. To be a Marine, you have to be physically fit, and you have to WANT to do it in the first place. Those are the two most important prerequisites, just like any of the other branches of service. You also have to have a GED or HS diploma, and you cannot be convicted of any felony, and you must not have any drugs in your system to get processed. As for the asthma.. I had asthma when I was younger and my cousin did as well. We built up our lungs through exercise and an active lifestyle. My cousin is in the Army, and I'm going into the Marine Corps OCS. Do not tell them you have asthma currently though, because they might not accept you. If you feel you can do it, then you definitely can do it. If you're not confident, you still can do it. It will just be harder. Anyways, good luck!
