Why are "Fiji" water bottles square? (It's not just marketing)?

Why are "Fiji" water bottles square? (It's not just marketing)?

I know the answer and it makes sense but it is interesting none the less because those bottles don't fit in a car cup holder and I previously thought it was a stupid design for cup holders... After all Fiji water is sold in gas stations.
