Why does a lot of people say this about sex and marriage?

That if a couple doesnt make love X amount of times a week or goes a long time without having sex then their marriage is doomed...I dont agree with this..My husband is 43,im 39 and we have been happily married 17 yrs..We havent had sex since late february i guess cause we havent thought about doing anything but are marriage is fine...We get along great,rarely fight and are still both very affectionate with each other with lots of hugs,kisses and cuddling..We havent talked about why we havent done anything but im sure 1 of these days we will and start having sex again..Just cause a couple doesnt have sex for awhile doesnt mean they dont have a healthy and happy marriage and yea sex is important in a marriage but its not the most important part....There has been a few times we went a couple of months without having sex and didnt cause any problems between us or in our marriage...We dont have kids....
No smoker he isnt "getting it somewhere else"..He is a good decent man,a great husband,loves me more then anything and would never do anything to hurt me or our marriage plus i know his views on cheating.
Well if he wants sex then he can HAVE it im not witholding anything and i never would.
