| What's the point for women to get married if it means they will end up doing even more housework than before?
Shacking up is better, right?"Then there was a global survey of 17,000 people in 27 countries, that came to the conclusion that married men do significantly less housework than their wives - and, astoundingly, less than their co-habiting male counterparts. The research suggested that marriage altered the division of labour between couples, pushing the female partner into doing more "woman's work" while her new husband presumably relaxed with a beer in front of the football. Researcher Shannon Davis, of George Mason University, said: "Marriage as an institution seems to have a traditionalising effect on couples. It's the way the society has defined what being married means that affects behaviour."http://lifeandhealth.guardian.co.uk/relationships/story/0,,2199661,00.html

Men go kill supper. Women help.Modern days. BOTH go work(or need to).Do not worry house'work'. Place being repo'ed soon.I will clean half the car if anylady interested...Someday the olde style polysexual unions will return to ALL earth... if hUmmans survive the wrath of our forefathers via cyclones, tornadoes, and quakes. And marriage concerns you? Must we die alone?

That's not true. My husband is more domesticated than the average male and learned at a very young age to cook and clean. I am proud to say he is self-sufficient and helps out a great deal in the house. From Ironing, Cooking, to washing clothes, and doing dishes.

Good question.I will say, as a teacher, that far more boys know how to cook and are domesticallt adept these days. I would say it is better than the girls domestic training these days. All I get from the western girls I teach is "my husband will do all that: we are 'liberated'". That is no recipe for a good relationship. Neither is the traditional "I want to be a dutiful wife to him" attitude.Mind you, life teaches more lessons than any adolescent dreams about what life may be like ever does.I cook, and learned myself as a child, and I don't mean baked beans on toast. My house is spotless: makes a much beter impression on visitors, and good common sense really. I learned these things because common sensesays that anyone should be able to to these things.

Strange progression of logic there....A person should not be getting married if they are not mature enough to take care of themselves and negotiate a division of labor that is mutually agreeable to the relationship. The "traditionalising effect" is probably more closely correlated with the introduction of children, not marriage per se. Adding a baby to the mix requires a restructuring of the division of labor, and much of the infant care logically lands with the mother, especially when breastfeeding is the feeding choice.

<chuckling> When marriage means to a woman that she's nothing but a slave that's all she's going to get out of it; shacking up or not she'll still feel the same. A women wants more strength she'd better buck up; complaining is draining. Now, I've heard everything marriage means slavery. <chuckles some more>
