| Would you get on anti-depressants to save your marriage? I'm bi-polar and apparently have PTSD, but I don't believe in anti-depressants. I used to take them when I was younger (Paxil, Zoloft, stuff like that) and I never felt right when I was on them. I would rather just accept my natural self and try to do what I can to be a better person without drugs. My husband says he's tired of my crazy mood swings because sometimes I'll get mean and hurt his feelings. He is pushing for me to get on meds. I know I can't be such a biotch to my husband all the time, I can see it's wearing him down, but then again, the antidepressants turn me into a caffeinated cheerleader. I want to do the right thing for my family, I have twin two year old boys to think about. What would you do in this situation? |

| You may not have gotten the right medication for you. I am on antidepressants, and I still have normal emotions. They are just not exaggerated like they were. In other words, when I do get depressed, it is not that deep dark depression that used to push me over the edge. You owe it to your family to try. It took my doctor 2 years to find the type of meds that were right for me. I just told him why I felt the others were not working right for me. Some made me gain too much weight, some made me emotionless, some made me anxious and hateful, some made me almost suicidal, some just plain did not help me. After trying about 5 different ones, I ended up on Celexa, which has helped me for the last 8 years with no side effects. If your psychiatrist is not patient with you, find another one that will be. I found a great one. He was able to release me from therapy, and just give me meds once we found the right ones. My family and friends have told me how much they hated the person I would become before, and how much more they enjoy my company now. You should try for your family and friend's sake. You will be much happier too!!! |
