Marriage/Eloping? Please help-Adults only?

What would be classified as eloping?
For those who want to know im 21, therefore not underage....
I know what it IS... i just want to know others view on it...
We want a wedding in June 09 but are considering eloping to avoid the stress, and cost...But too worried about what our parents and friends might say..

Getting married without the ceremony. Getting married without your families knowledge. There is actually alot of definitions for it. But mainly it's not having a wedding ceremony.

I recently got married in july of 2006 and if i had to do all over again i would elope but i would tell my family and friends. You need to do what ever makes you happy. Let me tell you weddings are very stressful and on the honeymoon all i wanted to do is sleep....LOL

Going off and getting married without telling anyone or having anyone participate in the ceremony.

If you're worried about the cost...why not just get married at the court house or at the JOP's office...then plan a small reception/gathering afterwards at someone's house. That way everyone can still be a part of your day, but you don't have the extra expenses of an actual ceremony.

i think it depends entirely on the reason for eloping in the first place. if its because you don't get along with your family and you think the chances are they wouldn't even think about supporting you then you may as well elope. however if its the case the family disapprove for what they see as a very valid reason, well then i think it would be better to try to get them to listen to reason. you'd only regret the decision not to have your family there otherwise. remember when you marry the intention is to only do it once. there are people out there that don't have anybody to share their special day with. would you really want to take that away from yourself without a really good reason?

Now a days lot of respect is being given to a true love and it is being encouraged. Therefore there is no question of ''eloping '' in its true sense arises in these days.
The present day adults are well informed and understand what they are doing.

What you and your fiance want is what matters, just make sure you have good pics taken so you can send everyone some. As far as whats classified as eloping, just pick a place that you both like and would like to get married at and go for it. I've heard that you can sort of elope to tropical places for two that aren't very expensive, or theres always vegas! Good luck

To elope, most literally, merely means to run away. To get married in secret.
