Live together before marriage?

i will have been dating my g/f for just over a year when i (plan to) ask her to marry me. then i think that we should live together for a year before we actually tie the knot to see if we are really compatible. my ex and i got married when we were very young and we did not live together until after the honeymoon. it was a HUGE shock to find that we we're not great for each other. live and learn. i would like feedback/experiences from all perspectives please
