Taking a couples trip when one is headed for divorce?

A couple my husband and I are friends with have suggested a weekend trip centered around seeing my favorite baseball at their home park, something I haven’t done for 8 years. It’s a 16 hour round trip, and normally I would jump at the chance to visit this city. Unfortunately there’s a bit of a cloud over this trip.

The wife of this couple threatened divorce a few months ago. They have been in therapy, and seemed to be repairing their relationship, but they’re headed downhill again. They came over last night and spent the whole time bickering about a trip they were going on today: whose fault it was that laundry wasn’t done, who was the better packer, what they needed to pack…you get the idea. I was so stressed out from their energy when they left, I couldn’t imagine spending an entire weekend with them, especially 16 hours in a car.

I’m so torn. I love this city, but I don’t know how enjoyable the trip would be with these two. What do you think?
