Is it Selfish to divorce because your a loser?

Not to get marital advice from movies, but in Spiderman Peter Parker never wanted to marry Mary Jane because his enemies would find out and hurt her.

Well if you knew you were a total F-?-K up and you constantly screwed things up and hurt your spouse, would you divorce them on the grounds that your tired of hurting them, or that they deserve better than you? Is that just a cop out?
What if you did something stupid 3-4 times a year, just out of poor judgement or stupidity? Im not talking about having sex with other people, or even 1st base, but everything else?
