How long should a divorce take?

I have had the hardest time getting this divorce moving because the 'respondent' has been jetsetting all over Canada and has refused contact since early November 07. I tried contacting friends and family of his, but no one had (or would give me) his address. Without an address, he can't be served. However, my lawyer is requesting to the courst that we get 'substituted service' and that the papers be e-mailed to him, since I've gone through all the trouble to provide evidence that he receives/sends email. So, lets say after I see my lawyer and sign my affidavit today, HOW LONG should the divorce take to be granted? I absolutely cannot wait much longer to be divorced from this monster.
