Another after divorce?

Ok, there is a no contact order/restraining order in place against the ex. (I posted another question earlier about returning his things.) During our divorce hearing 2months ago, his lawyer asked me if I would petition the court to drop both orders because we both have clearly gone on with our lives. My lawyer said she saw no reason too, but it was up to me and of course the judge. Both orders are good for 4 years. My concern is do people really change? I mean the last assault took place over a year ago. Am I being "blinded" to drop it? I don't think he would hit me again. I've heard he has been seeing another woman, so I keep thinking maybe it's safe to drop it. We share a child together and I know the orders make it difficult to be at events together. Any one ever been through this?
