How can I tell if a bad marriage is in my future?

I am 23 and am engaged to be married in 2 months. I have known my fiance for 10 months but we have been very close during this time. Out of the blue, he proposed to me over the Xmas holiday. The problems are that he is a bit older and has a teenage child who gets everything he wants, even if it's not financially feasible. I don't want to end up in a bad marriage but I know that while we love each other and care for each other, there may be problems in the future. I don't want to end up in marriage counseling but even the priest who plans on marrying us knows my fiance and is not even asking that we go through the pre-marriage seminars. Any advice is welcomed as I have no one to discuss this with.
