Why do some people decide after years of marriage that they actually don't...

...want to be with their spouse? How can a couple get married, buy a house, have children, travel, etc. and after many years decide that they aren't really right for each other after all.

The other thing that boggles my mind is when a couple does all of the above, and then one spouse decides that s/he is gay.
