What is a inexpensive way to find out if you are divorced?

a friend of mine has not seen wife in over 15 years after he left her in Florida. No kids involved. She was an addict. He has no way to contact her and wants to get a divorce from her. Any ideas?

He can get a divorce on grounds of abandonment. Those can usually be done without consent of the other party. Go down to family court, paperwork to fill out is usually free (the cost comes when you file it). Doing it yourself is the cheapest way, if he got a lawyer he'd have to pay lawyer fees on top of court costs you have to pay no matter what.

I am not a lawyer but you can get a free consult usually at any attorney office. I know its called abandonment but do not know the process.

hire an attorney to do all the work for you. i had a friend whos husband ran back to mexico and she couldnt get the paper work to him to file it. you would have to file it as abandonment or something that she fled or left with no known address. the government can track people easily from taxes and paycheck stubs to electric bills or car payments, it may take awhle, its just that it would be cheaper to have the lawyer to their best and just pay them to do it then spend the money yourself to drive all over to find her. good luck

All he has to do is go to the courthouse and file for divorce citing abandonment.
