Same sex marriage will lead to polygamy???

This is a common argument I hear against gay marriage. My question is, so what????? So what if it does lead to polygamy???? Why do you care what other people choose to do with their lives? I would not do it, but if you are a woman and you’re willing to marry a man who has other wives, more power to you. It's not my place to say you can't do that. I do not oppose gay marriage because I do not feel it is my right to impose my ways on to other people. I believe that people should be allowed to do what ever they please so long as it does not bring harm to another person. At least that’s the way it should be in a nation that wants to call itself free. If you don't believe in freedom, fine, but then don't turn around and call me unpatriotic for supporting freedom while you oppose it.

And finally, if same-sex marriage is permitted, then other types of marriages such as polygamous and polyamorous ones also would have to be allowed leading to more confusion in the lives of children.

That's a poor arguement to me. The point should be that there simply is no such thing, a "gay marriage" would be a contradiction in terms.

Technically speaking, denying same-sex marriage is a violation of the constitution, whereas denying a polygamous marriage is not.

That said, I don't care either way. If three people want to get married, let them.

There's absolutely no correlation between same sex marriage and polygamy. People who use this argument simply do so because they have yet to even consider, for themselves, the argument at hand. It is a weak, unsubstantial, stupid argument against gay marriage.

The real point of the whole gay marriage issue is, why is the word marriage used in legal terminology? The word "Marriage" comes from a religious sacrament, however the United States is supposed to separate the church and the state. No one from any sexual orientation should be legally married, they should be civilly united, gay or straight. When two people decide to commit to one another, they should be civilly united by the state, and married by their religion. The government should have no say in what a person can do within their religious beliefs, and religious beliefs should have nothing to do with the government.

Your absolutely correct, the current opposition to gay marriage is not only opposing freedom but it is contradictory to true patriotism.

God allowed for multiple wives.......but that doesn't mean you HAVE to have multiple wives

They should have thought of that when they allowed heterosexual marriage. If there's a slippery slope, we're already on it.
