Seperation and divorce...I'm clueless?

First of all thank you for those who answered my question about my husband having paranoid personality disorder. Lately he's been nice, but I'm still contemplating seperation. However, what's the best possible way to do that? My friend said I should do it in a public place so his reaction should be limited. Secondly, I don't know anything about seperating or divorce. What are the first steps once you tell him. We have a daughter together and she's only 1. We also have a house and 2 cars. I'm thinking he will refuse to leave or will up and leave with our daughter and that makes me nervous, really scared and nervous. What should I do???
