what do i do when my parents are getting divorced?

My parents are getting divorced after 25 years together - and it is
getting really nasty. Both want me on their side. How do I keep out of
their fight and still keep a relationship with both of them?

tell them if they want to keep your respect for them and want you to be in either of there life like that, they woul dkeep you out of it...theres nothing you can do about the actual divorce, but when you become the wishbone...then step away from both of them and dont offer up your opinions on either side(dont take sides) this should make them realize, your not having it!

Tell them that they got married without you and your opinions and they can do the divorce without you as well.

Let them both know that you refuse to take sides and to stop bash each other around you.

My parents divorced after 37 years. It was really hard for me, even though I am an adult, because there aren't any rules, you know? And my parents talked to me like I was their friend about the whole thing because I was an adult. But I was still their kid, and had way too many conflicting emotions about it to be a "friend" to them.

Basically all I can say is it gets better. You have to tell both of them that you are not willing to pick a side, because that means you would be excluding your mother/father. So if your father wants you to side with him, tell him you are asking me to exclude my mother out of my life. I understand she was your wife, and she's not anymore. But she is still my mother and always will be. To ask me to exclude my mother is selfish of you. And don't worry, I will say the same exact thing to her when she asks me to exclude you. I'm sure you understand.

I kept reminding my parents that though they could divorce each other, I couldn't divorce either of them, no matter how much I wanted to at times. It got them to back off.

It's been 3 years since the divorce and both are happier than they were when they were married. Were they perfect throughout the process? Hell, no. But they did their best. And I did my best to stay true to both of them without getting tangled up into their mess.

Good luck, hon.

Tell them both...

"I love both of you... please do not put me in the middle... lets talk about something else!"

Now that sounds hard. I say just keep telling them that you love them no matter what happens.
