The husband of my friend has now died. They were separated but not divorced.?

She registered an interest in the marital home at the time they separated. He continued to live in the house until his recent death and she walked away from the marriage with nothing. The first she heard of his death was when the Pensions people notified her that she was now in receipt of a widow's pension. His family didn't let her know he had died. He left a will but she doesn't know how he bequeathed his estate. She's seeing a solicitor soon. If he has left the house to his family will she be able to contest the will?
