How often do people have sex before marriage?

Hi I'm a 20 year old single guy and I want answers about premarital sex. My Mum and Dad and grans say that most people wait until they're married before they have sex but all of my friends and men's magazines keep telling me that most people have sex before marriage. It's really confusing me and I don't get out much to find out for myself.
What is peoples' REAL attitude towards sex these days?
My mum and dad keep telling me that I will eventually find someone and we will get to know eachother as friends and eventually fall in love and get married. Does this actually happen? Or is this an old fashioned way of looking at it. Like in the 60s or something. I just wanna get out there and play the field but my parents keep on saying that that's not reality and no-one does that. Help please?
