why is it "weird" to want to save yourself till marriage??

my brother said that once you get to high school, everything changes. i mean, i'm still an 8th grader and getting used to the fact that my 17 year old brother isn't a virgin anymore... i mean, whenever i tell people that, they're all like "yeah...that's what you say now." is it really weird or something??
i'm not religious
