He had several reasons, mostly he felt that the Masons had too much influence in politics and government. John Adams, was not a Mason, but you are quite correct, that John Adams had many masonic friends, and was favorable toward Masonry. I do not know exactly, but I think John Adams and JQA had a good relationship. There is a mini-series on HBO, about John Adams, and there are several good biographies of John Adams, the one by David McCullogh is excellent. |
