how do you do this math equation??

-2 5/6=y/3 - 2/3
it's - 3/2
the problem is actually -2 5/6=y/3 - 3/2


the answer is -4, i just dont know how to get it

-17=2y-9 [multiplying both sides by 6]
-17+9=2y
-8=2y
y= -8/2= -4 ans

My first step would be to convert the mixed fraction:

-17/6=y/3-2/3

then multiply all terms by 6 - this will bring the whole equation to integers:

-17=2y-4

Add 4 to each side:

-13=2y

Finally divide by 2

y=-13/2 = -6 1/2
