| Hardest field of mathematics? What do the MIT Math Ph.Ds usually specialize in? Number theory or something? I've always thought the calculus is as hard as math will ever get, but I was wrong, wasn't I? Do math graduate students even study calculus? |

| At undergraduate university level it doesn't really get any harder, just a lot more of the same difficulty - well thats how I found it anyway. And lots of it. You can choose any area to specialise in and it depends if you do Pure maths, applied maths, statistics, etc... In fact i think 1st year was the hardest, 2nd and third year weren't really all that hard and most of 1st year is the same stuff i did at high school, just more refined. I think proofs were hardest When you say "Calculus", thats really quite broad, but i dont think it gets much harder than the hardest stuff I did in high school The thing is, the more maths you learn, the more your mind gets used to thinking that way, so its easier to understand the harder concepts. |
