How come its so hard for me to get a good mark in math?

im not sure why but its has been so hard for me to get a good grade in math since I started high school. I did pretty well in primary when I started addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, but once I got to algebra im the worst in the class!
I do the practice problems and listen attentively in class but i almost never get above 70% on my tests
am i doomed to never succeed in math?
