math help plz, has to do with surface area?

i really don't understand surface area. We have to do the surface area for; cubes(rectangular prisms), traiangular prisms, and cylinders. It really dosnt make any sense to me. If u know anything about this plz post me and explain it, all I really understand is the cubes and the really dont make any sense
