I'm horrible at math and its been so long. Need help on how to explain

this to my child.? There are no directions so I cant even explain it to him.

Title is "Algebra: Area of squares and rectangles" - In the middle section it asks to "find the missing measurements" and gives 6 problems...

Example :

s=3.2 yd
A= ?

Another Example

l = 9m
w = 12
A = ?

What does the s stand for and is the A mean area?

How do I explain how to do it?
