Cooking Math measurement help!?

Half of 3/4 is 3/8 roght? If so why not use 3/3? What do you think?

Yes! 1/2 of 3/4 equals 3/8.

But where would you use 3/3. 3/3 is equal to 1 as well as 2/2, 4/4, 5/5 etc.

If you have a fraction look at the "bottom" number first. That tells you into how many pieces the whole unit is divided. Then look at the top number. it tells you how many of those parts to consider.

3/3 tells you that the unit is divided into 3 parts and that you take 3 of them.

3/4 tells you that the unit is divided into 4 pieces and you take 3 of them. I could also be that it is divided into 8 pieces and you take 6 of them. 6/8.

The half of 6/8 is 3/8

If you meamt 1/3 we could say it like this

1/3 is equal to 8/24
3/8 is equal to 9/24

So you see that 1/3 is slightly less than 3/8.

If your baking then it matters on measurements, if your not , well it doesn't matter if its not exact.
