| Does Mathematics have any practical applications? I am an engineering student. I find the subjects like Physics, ELectronics, Chemistry, etc very interesting as they have enormous practical applications. But whenever I study mathematics I begin to wonder " Why am I doing this? Does it have any applications in the field of science and technology?" and I don't get interest. I stopped doing Maths. Hence my question. |

| Mathematics can be applied and is indeed applied to a large variety of subjects: from finance, to medical research (yes, I know as a fact), even biology (is now a field called "theoretical biology", very heavy in math...). But you surely know what math is applied for: you are an engineering student: depending upon what kind of engineering you are studying: how do you calculate phase equilibria, or stresses in a bridge, or the size of a wind turbine? |
