Does Mathematics have any practical applications?

I am an engineering student. I find the subjects like Physics, ELectronics, Chemistry, etc very interesting as they have enormous practical applications. But whenever I study mathematics I begin to wonder " Why am I doing this? Does it have any applications in the field of science and technology?" and I don't get interest. I stopped doing Maths. Hence my question.

Mathematics can be applied and is indeed applied to a large variety of subjects: from finance, to medical research (yes, I know as a fact), even biology (is now a field called "theoretical biology", very heavy in math...).
But you surely know what math is applied for: you are an engineering student: depending upon what kind of engineering you are studying: how do you calculate phase equilibria, or stresses in a bridge, or the size of a wind turbine?

for one simple example, without statistical analysis of supply and demand the store shelves would be empty all the time.... so no food, kinda makes you want math right away....
