how do u find perimiter? i have to for math.?

idk if u count the outside or is that area?? well i counted the boxes onthe outside and i got 20 so if that is area can u find the perimiter and tell me how you did it thanks~~!!~~
but its not 3-d and its a weird shape!! what do i do??helpp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
