You have to find the lowest common denominator. In this case, it is 18. So, you would multiply (7/9) by (2/2) and (1/6) by (3/3)

The problem will now look like (14/18) - (3/18), giving you an answer of (11/18)

well first you have to make the fractions equal. Multiply the denominators together. 9*6 = 54. your new denominator is 54. then you multiply the numerators with the opposite old denominator. 7 * 6 = 42. ur new fraction is 42/54. then you repeat with the other numbers. 1 * 9 = 9. 9/54. then you do 42/54 - 9/54 = 33/54. that's your answer! good luck!

You have to get a common denominator to be able to do subtraction with fractions. The lowest common denominator here is 18. To make them both have a denominator of 18 you have to multiply them both. To get 7/9 into a fraction with the denominator of 18, you have to multiply both the numerator and the denominator by 2.
7 X 2 = 14
9 X 2 = 18
So 7/9 = 14/18
Then to get 1/6 into a fraction with the denominator of 18, you have to multiply both the numerator and the denominator by 3.
1 X 3 = 3
6 X 3 = 18
So 1/6 = 3/18
Then you just do simple subtraction involving fractions.
14/18 - 3/18 = 11/18
And that's your answer, 11/18
Hope that's helped!

Make the bottom number the same by finding a common denominator, then the sum will be easy:

7/9 =14/18
1/6 = 3/18

14-3 =

you need a commin denominator
9 and 6 both go into 18 (9*2 and 6*3)
ask youself:
how many times does 9 go into 18= 2 so multiply 7 by 2; 7/9= 14/18
do the same for 1/6
new problem:
14/18- 3/18= 11/18
