Describe, in words, how the graph of y=x^2 can be transformed into the graph of the given function.
a) y = 5x^2 - 4
b) y = -3(x + 5)^2 - 7
c) y = -1/2(x - 3)^2
d) y =1/4(x - 5)^2

well, the A term (y=ax^2+bx+c)
determines the width. (higher number=thinner)
the c term determines the intercept


so, the graph of y=x^2 could become the graph of y=5x^2-4 if it became THINNER and the X intercept moved down 4 units to negative four.
