Additional Mathematics problem - Quadratic Equations?

Given p and q are the roots of the equation 4px^2 + 7x + q = 0, p and q not equal 0.
(a) Find the possible values of p and q
(b) For each of the values of p and q in part (a), form the quadratic equations with roots -2p and 1/2q
When you come down to -7/4p =p+q, how do you cancel off the "p" in "4p"?
