| why does my media player 11 not play avi's, do i need to download something for it to play? im using a windows xp on a dell with windows media player 11 and it won't play anything other than mpg's do i need to download any programs or upgrades for this player, because i would like to keep the player i am currently using. |

| AVI isn't a specific video format, its what programmers call a wrapper and there are MANY sub formats that are all called AVI. Each subformat is played by a different codec. If there are videos you already have that you could play before but can't play since the upgrade, you probably had installed some codecs before. You may have to find them and reinstall them. Also, there are all sorts of other players available that will play Mpegs and AVIs and Divx and on and on. I have noticed there is NO player that will play everything so I have about 5 different video players installed, including one really old version of Windows Media Player |
