| HELP! Can't get rid of fleas, any suggestions besides flea medicine and bombs?
My house is brand new. No one has ever lived here before us. My animals keep getting fleas! I have used Advantage, Advantage plus, revolution and frontline. I bought ektokyl to spray around and have flea bombed multiple times. I even tore out my carpet from the main room where the animals are. No luck! Does anyone have any suggestions? My poor animals are always scratching, and I often get bit myself and have seen fleas on me! HELLLPP I don't have carpet, I have flea bathed my pets already and use full doses of all flea medications and have sprayed my yard and inside of house regularily. I guess I'll have to look into an exterminator. It seems like they go away for a bit and come back shortly. And I can't afford to take 2 cats and two dogs to the vet for vet only meds. I think we're screwed. |

I had this problem several years ago. I did all the things you did, in addition, I gave my cats flea baths (which they hated). Then I got all the pets out of the house & set up several flea bombs (upstairs & down). I did this AT LEAST 4 different times, and at last, they were gone. I think you just need to perservere. Or you could always try a professional, like Terminex. I hear they are very good. Good Luck!

Sounds like you've got quite an infestation. I would suggest hiring a professional exterminator to treat in your house and to treat your yard. Plus wash all of your sheets, blankets, towels, clothes, etc. And use a flea comb and comb out your pets very thoroughly before you bring them inside.

The newer one on the market for treating the home is Indorex spray which has the added benefit of worming the animals too!I it's very good but if you have a real bad problem then you'll need to pay a fumigation company to come out and fumigate your house and you'll need somewhere else to stay for the next 48 hrs after fumigation.

You need to get into the regular habit of bathing your animals, yes even your cats. My cats are so used to it that they don't even mind it anymore. I bathe mine once a week, but they do not go outside-except for the dog. I vacuum every day, and use an over the counter flea medicine. Your other source could be your furniture. Many times fleas can live in your sofas. If you have already bombed your house and followedthe directions and bombed again in 7 days and you still have fleas, then perhaps there is something else amiss. Perhaps you are overlooking something or not getting all the eggs. That is why it is so crucial on the day you are going to bomb to scrub your pets down apply flea medicine, bomb and then repeat EVERYTHING in 7 days. Good Luck!

How long are you giving the advantage or revolution for? it can take up to 6 weeks to work because it need to break the fleas life cycle. Flea have a pupae stage that they can stay in for weeks at a time waiting for ideal conditions to come out. You need to give it atleast 6 weeks! After those 6 weeks if you keep up with treatment the fleas should be gone!

Baths can actually wash away flea meds (we've had this problem!) My vet said only use 100% soap-free shampoos. My guess is the location you moved to is flea-prone. Frontline Plus is the only thing that works for us now. Also, put Borax powder in your vacuum bag so fleas don't jump out! |
