2 and half month's cough worsen after taking medicine?

my baby is 2 and half months old, she had a cough 4 days ago and i brought her to see a doc, he prescribe chlormine and ventolim for my baby, but after taking it for 2 days, my baby's cough worsen and develop phlegm.so i stop the medicine and call a specialist, she said the medicine is good for opening lungs, but i saw yahoo answers and they mention its best not to give medicine to infants between 1 to 3 months. so what should i do? my baby's still coughing, is it normal?
