Why isn't food considered 'preventative' medicine?

Shouldn't food be covered under my medical plan? If I don't eat I get sick, right?

Makes sense to me but here in mid-continental America food is not taken seriously.

Even in hospitals the food is crap. I've been vegan for a long time so I really only eat organic and mostly grow my own. I'm constantly amazed with what is in the Standard American Diet. Not healthy in any way!
