The fairly ancient practice of attaching leaches to the human body to draw blood has been revived in the modern era.

In ancient Egypt, physicians used to relieve cranial pressure by drilling a small, clean hole through the skull cap, allowing a subdural hematoma to bleed off possibly saving the patients life. This is often done for head trauma cases today

Also, certain drugs that were once commonly used thousands of years ago have made a reappearance. One such drug that comes to mind is called marihuana. Apparently it mitigates nausea and enhances appetite and though quite effective, has not been on the pharmacists' shelves for over one hundred years.

Drugs, constantly being synthesized in labs, are often seen being used in there natural organic analogues by aboriginal peoples, following the practices of their ancient ancestors.

the big thing that separates the 2 is that modern medicine is evidence based. Almost all therapies are studies and proven to be beneficial before they are administered. This enables current providers to be confident they are helping patients. Older forms relied on anecdotal evidence and elements of mysticism that were based on beliefs more than demonstratable facts.

Lots of funny theories though.
