| Pain Medicine? I just called the Humane Society spay clinic here to check it out after reading the question here a few minutes ago and I made a appointment for my little dog to get spayed tomorrow.I like the idea of being able to bring her home tomorrow afternoon but forgot to ask if they will give her pain medicine to bring home.I know my vet would of had I taken her there.I tried to call them back but no answer right now.Does anyone know do they give them pain medicine to take home from the HumaneSociety? Thanks |

| They probably will, but you can certainly call them back and ask that. They might have been in surgery when you called earlier. Congratulations on making the appointment. You are being very responsible and it's best for your dog's general health. It's also less expensive that way, I'll bet. Before you leave there to bring her home, ask them to explain to you what to expect. Some of the things she might experience include: - being 'zonked out' for ??? how long ??? from anesthesia - being in pain (ask for meds then if you haven't got them yet) - how long will her recovery take? - how long should you assume she will not pee? (one of the important things to watch for after surgery is to make sure she has no trouble peeing afterwards) - if she's not peed yet, how long do you wait before bringing her back for a vet check to rule out problems - ask for an outline in general of what to expect. My vet prefered to keep my female to make sure she started peeing again. Apparantly, in the few cases where the dog has problems, not peeing is one of the indications of problems. If they forget to give you pain meds, my vets have told me it's ok to give ecotrin, which is coated aspirin. |
