Do different brands of medicine that are supposed to do the same thing work...

...differently on different people? For example:

For allergies - Nasonex vs. Claritin vs. Zyrtec

Zyrtec makes me sleepy - Nasonex works directly at the source and had few if any side effects. Claritin is really for indoor allergies mostly I think.
