| "Internal Medicine" or "Family Practice" - Which doctor to choose? I need to find a family doctor. I know there are doctors specializing in Family Practice and other specializing in Internal Medicine. What is the main difference between both specialties? P.S. I don't have children and I do have a Gynecologist.      |

| Family Practice covers all areas of medicine. Internal medicine is an adult primary care physician, they do not cover pediatrics or OB/GYN. So if you are looking for a doctor for yourself, choose either, but women will still need a separate gynecologist if they choose the internal med doctor. If you want a doctor for both yourself and your children, then choose the family practice doc. |

| The family doctor can take care of most minor problems that you may develop. If he can't, he'll refer you to a specialist. And "internist" is a specialist for complicated organic illnesses like severe systemic infections and strokes. You need a family practitioner. |
