What will happen to the Insurance industry if we get socialized medicine in the USA?

They will cease to exist. The government will ruin the health care system. There will be long waits to be seen and inferior doctors because they will be paid by the government. If the government would get out completely, (that includes the FDA to) then prices would lower and the quality will be better. The reason for this is that they would have to compete for customers. They would compete for quality, cost and wait times. If socialized medicine does come to America then the government will essentially have a monopoly of the health care system.

I am a Kaiser-Permanente member. I asked my doctor the same question a week ago. He said that's a very good question, and he didn't know for sure. He had learned, though, that Kaiser will be considered a model to work from if it happens.

If you don't know anything about Kaiser, you might even believe that it's socialized medicine. Perhaps it is. But here's the key: it is NOT owned, operated, adminstered, or run by the government. It's quite successful, modern and efficient.
